From Ramiro Garcia:
Yesterday, on Teacher Appreciation Day, I took that step after months of listening to parents, students, teachers, and neighbors across Lansing. People have shared what is working, what is not, and what our kids need right now.
This feels personal and full circle for me. I grew up attending Lansing schools, I am a Lansing Promise alum, both of my parents graduated from Lansing schools, and my grandmother retired as the custodian at Riddle Elementary. Lansing is the community that invested in me and helped shape who I am. Now feels like the right time to step up for the community that raised me.
I have spent my career working in policy and public service, and I know that decisions made by elected leaders affect our classrooms, our teachers, and our students’ futures. That is why I am running to keep the focus where it belongs: on students, families, and educators.
Here is what I am committed to fighting for:
Safe Schools: Students need to feel physically and emotionally safe, with the mental health support they need to learn and grow.
Quality Education: Education should help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We also need to support and keep great teachers, invest in classrooms, and make sure every student gets the education they deserve.
Preparing Students for Life After Graduation: Whether it is college, skilled trades, military service, or going straight into the workforce, Lansing students deserve opportunities and strong local partnerships that help them take their next step. Attending Lansing schools should open doors and give students and families a district they are proud of.
Lansing gave me so much, and my love for this city runs deep. Now I’m ready to give back and invest in Lansing’s future.
If you care about our kids and our schools, I would be grateful for your support. Drop a comment, share this with friends in Lansing, or message me if you want to get involved.
Lansing, let’s get to work!
