The East Lansing City Council by a 4-0 vote appointed former Lansing Police Lt. Noel Garcia Jr. to replace Lisa Babcock who resigned in December 2022. He will be in the position until November 7, 2023. This now gives him a running start as an incumbent when his term expires.
There were 5 applicants who made the final round out of a field of 14 applicants. Noel works at the Wilson Talent Center as a law enforcement instructor with the Ingham Intermediate School District going on 9 years in May. This was after over 24 years at the Lansing Police Department retiring as a Police Lieutenant.
