Have you heard of the Cesar Chavez Learning Center (CCLC) at Lansing Community College (LCC)? Maybe you are a student or have a family member who might be attending LCC currently or in the near future? This week is a great week to meet with the some of the staff as the CCLC Program will offer three days of programming in an open house setting complete with some movies and pan dulce.
Please check out the flyer for CCLC as they will be inviting people to see some pretty well known and not so well known movies. The most popular one would be the 2001 film “Tortilla Soup” which stars Hector Elizondo who plays Martin, a widowed chef who is losing both his sense of taste and control over his three daughters. Tortilla Soup will be shown at 3:00pm.
Also featured is “Rise and Fall of the Brown Buffalo” at 3:00pm on Wednesday. The film is a fresh and genre-defying film about the life of radical Chicano lawyer, author and countercultural icon, Oscar Zeta Acosta — the basis for the character Dr. Gonzo in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, written by his friend, legendary journalist-provocateur Hunter S. Thompson. It is produced by Academy-Award winning actor Benicio Del Toro.
The LUCERO Program is designed to attract and retain students of color, particularly Latinos, by providing a space where they would feel welcome and receive support. LUCERO focuses on developing student skills in academics, leadership and professionalism. Students are encouraged to participate in at least one workshop or activity per area each semester to get the full experience.
This will be a great week to drop in during what is normal business hours of Tuesday to Thursday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Please check out the flyer and drop in as the staff will be on hand to answer any questions about attending LCC, CLCC services and really any concerns that you may have.
