LANSING (March 23, 2021) — Lansing City Councilman Jeremy Garza is overwhelmingly favored to retain his 2nd Ward seat during this year’s city election, starting the campaign season in a strong financial position and with an extensive list of endorsements. “I’m humbled to have earned the support of so many community leaders, respected organizations and everyday working families,” Garza said. “Bringing people together to get things done for Lansing families is what my campaign is all about.”
Garza, a licensed union plumber first elected in 2017, has already earned endorsements from the Greater Lansing Labor Council; state Sen. Curtis Hertel; state Reps. Sarah Anthony; Kara Hope, Julie Brixie and Angela Witwer; Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum; Ingham County Register of Deeds Derrick Quinney, the Michigan Building Trades Council; IBEW Local 665; Operating Engineers Local 324; Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 333; numerous county commissioners; and many more. In addition to his endorsements from local leaders and unions, Garza began the election year with over $22,000 in campaign funds, according to his most recent campaign finance report, filed Feb. 1.
In his three-plus years in office representing citizens on Lansing’s Southeast side, Garza, a licensed union plumber, has developed a reputation as a hard worker who keeps his head down and does his job. He doesn’t get involved in petty political squabbles, focusing instead on the issues that matter most to his constituents. He regularly holds constituent meetings — for the past year virtually — so citizens can provide feedback on city issues and tell him what issues they’d like him to work on. “I’ve been laser-focused on South Lansing’s priorities, like fixing our crumbling roads, improving public safety and cleaning up our neighborhoods,” Garza said.
“Working families and seniors know that I will always listen to them and help make their voices heard at City Hall, and I hope I’ve earned their support for another four years on the Lansing City Council. ”Garza and his wife, Alicia, a registered nurse, have lived in the Second Ward since 2003. They have two young daughters: Calla, 11, and Eva, 8.
