After nine weeks of teams playing, the Latin American League finally came down to one game between the best two teams. After Auto Electronics defeated North Side Barbershop 14-10, Del Rio beat Aldaco’s Taco Bar 18-8. Those were games that had to be made up due to early season rainouts. Next up was the regularly scheduled doubleheader between the top two teams in the league. Auto Electronics took care of Del Rio easily in game one 13 to 3 setting up a winner take all Championship game. This writer can recall the last time so many players came up limping due to different ailments.
Despite the different injuries, I didn’t see one player give up. I really think at least a couple should have come out, but that just goes to show you that this might be a “Family League”, it doesn’t matter if its the 1950’s, 1980’s or 2000, no one likes to lose in the Latin Leagues. A back and forth game ended with the Del Rio team taking the regular season title 20 to 17. Clearly the best two teams all season long, but its on to the Latin League tournament for both of these teams. Waiting for them will be the rest of the league waiting for their chance to pull an upset. Congrats to Del Rio!
