***October 27, 2019 – Dia de los Muertos 5k Walk/Run. The Lansing for Cesar E. Chavez will host this inaugural 5k race on Lansing’s beautiful scenic river trail, near César E. Chávez Plaza, located in Old Town, Lansing, Michigan. Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), is a celebration of life and death of all ages. While the holiday originated in Mexico, it is celebrated all over Latin America and the US. Come dressed up and ready to celebrate tradition, community, and diversity! ***Wednesday, October 30, 2019 – The Latino Advisory Committee will hold the first of four “Latino Family Nights” starting at Gardner International Magnet School. Location: 333 Dahlia Dr. Lansing, Michigan 48911. Starting at 6pm until 7:30pm, dinner will be served.

For those Latino families who have students in the Lansing School District (LSD) the Latino Advisory Committee invites you to join us as we introduce our Committee and some of the many resources that the LSD provides. This night will be the first Family Night and is geared towards Kindergarten to 8th grade students throughout the LSD.

Learn about programs for LSD students including those programs that are specific to the Latino community. Dinner will be provided. This one will be followed up by a Latino Family Night at Everett High School on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

The Latino Advisory Committee was created in April of 1972 to recognize, educate, and empower parents to take a proactive role in the educational and personal development of their children. We work in partnership with the Lansing School District to advocate for Latino families and their students throughout the calendar year.

***November 1-3, 2019 – Casa de Rosado Presents Dia de los Muertos Exhibit. Location: 204 E. Mt. Hope Ave. Lansing, Michigan 48911. Come join Casa de Rosado, MICCAA, and Voces De La Comunidad as we welcome our departed loved ones back for the weekend as part of our annual Día de Muertos celebration.

The gallery space will feature exhibits of ofrendas from community members, food, and warmth. Hot chocolate, pan muerto, and tamales will be provided, and an opening ceremony will take place at 1 pm to welcome the departed back for the weekend. Come join us for a weekend of remembrance and celebration!

***Friday, November 8, 2019 – Delta Tau Lambda Presents the 11th Annual Salute to the Latina on the Campus of Michigan State University. Starting at 7pm

The phenomenal women of Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc. will present this year’s theme which is “My Struggles, My Victories” where we are focusing on women of color that have done so much for our community but still have not been recognized for their achievements. At this event, we will give an opportunity for a selected group of women to share their life stories that focus on struggles they have encountered as a woman in society.

Please join us in this wonderful celebration at Michigan State University’s Union Lake Huron! Free event, free food, and free entertainment! Don’t miss out!
