Cuban Cuisine celebrated the Grand Opening yesterday of the first Cuban restaurant in East Lansing. Located at 219 E. Grand River Ave. right across from Michigan State University. Their first location is at 123 S. Washington Sq. in Lansing’s Downtown District.

What started out on 4 wheels with a food truck in Lansing’s Old Town District back in 2015, became a brick and mortar in downtown Lansing on December 18, 2017, and now a second location serving the MSU and East Lansing communities.

A Parent’s Choice Gold Award Winner!

It’s hard not to smile when Sonia is sharing some of her favorite things: migrating birds, friendship, chocolate, growing up in Mexico, and realizing her childhood dream of moving to New York. Her songs are inspired by various Latin American rhythms like huapango, cumbia, salsa, and festejo, as well as the North American folk traditions from the United States.

In this upbeat and joyful concert, Sonia De Los Santos and her band invite audiences to enjoy a delightful collection of original songs sung in Spanish and English. Nominated for a Latin Grammy, Sonia was hailed by Billboard as “one of the Latin children’s music artists you should know.”

Michigan State University Federal Credit Union Showcase Series

Celebrate the season with one of MSU’s most treasured musical traditions. The Symphony Orchestra joins Choral Union, State Singers, and University Chorale for Alegría Navideña (Holiday Joy), a program highlighting the spirit of the season through music sung in Spanish. Featured works include El Mesías (Handel’s  Messiah, Part I) and Ariel Ramírez’s Navidad Nuestra, rich with Latin American rhythms. Lee R. Kesselman’s Festival of Lights offers a vibrant setting of English and Hebrew texts, and the evening concludes with a joyful audience sing-along. Conducted by Sandra Snow and Octavio Más-Arocas.

The Dia de la Mujer Conference is just around the corner and nominations are needed for the Maria Zavala Award. The award is to recognize Xicanas/Latinas for their relentless contributions at home, school and work in their community.

Do you have an expertise that you would be willing to share? The Dia de la Mujer Conference is looking for workshop presenters for the 31st Annual Conference set for Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing, Michigan.

Over 500 attendees will be coming together and looking to be inspired, network, make new friends while meeting up with old friends from around the State of Michigan. At the heart of the Dia de le Mujer Conference (DDLM) will be the morning and afternoon workshops. If you have expertise in finance, business, networking, life skills, health and wellness, arts and culture etc., make sure you send in your proposal by Monday, December 8, 2025.

Let’s come together this holiday season to uplift our students and celebrate our community spirit.

Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Nuestra Cultura brings together a panel discussion but more importantly people, to talk about their strategies for success, their personal stories about their journeys. This will take place at the MSU Multicultural Center from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

The Human Library is an interactive experience designed to challenge stereotypes, broaden perspectives, and build understanding through storytelling and dialogue. Instead of borrowing books, participants “check out” a person — a “living book” — for a one-on-one or small group conversation. These living books are individuals who share their lived experiences, identities, and professional journeys. The goal is to create an open space where participants can ask questions, listen, and engage in meaningful conversations that break down barriers and foster empathy.

At Michigan State University, the Human Library will feature Latino professionals, creatives, and community leaders from a variety of industries — such as business, education, healthcare, the arts, media, and sports. Students will have the opportunity to learn directly from these voices, gaining insight into diverse career paths, cultural identity, and resilience.

Following the Human Library sessions, a panel discussion will bring together a select group of these living books to reflect on their experiences, share key lessons, and discuss broader issues impacting the Latino community today. The panel will highlight themes such as:

Representation and leadership in professional spaces

The role of culture and heritage in shaping identity.

Overcoming challenges and breaking barriers.

Inspiring the next generation of Latino leaders.

This event not only provides MSU students with access to mentorship and networking, but also celebrates the richness of Latino culture and perspectives, encouraging dialogue that builds bridges across communities.
