Capital City Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, October 25, 2025. 

Footprints of Michigan is proud to bring you the Capital City Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), is a celebration of life and death of all ages. While the holiday originated in Mexico, it is celebrated all over Latin America and the US.  Come dressed up and ready to celebrate tradition, community, and diversity.

Participants are encouraged to wear traditional Dia de los Muertos face paint, flowers and other attire.  FAMILY FUN EVENT!

Location: Granger Meadows Park

Cost 5k: Pre-registration before October 13th (all ages) $40.00 –  includes Dia de los Muertos t-shirt.  After pre-registration date $50.00 (all ages), t-shirt as supplies last Not guaranteed a T shirt.  

Carrera de Los Niños (Kids Run): $10 Registration after pre registration $15  Kids will receive medal, bib , and goodie bag.

Awards: All participants (excludes kids run) will receive a beautiful Dia de Los Muertos finisher medal and T- Shirt

Packet pick up: TBA

Race will start at 10:00 am for runners. 11:00 am for walkers/rollers

The race will be professionally timed by the Michigan Running Foundation. Results will be live during the race and on this website.

Custom Yard Sign Orders:
The Capitol City Dia De Los Muertos 5k Run has the option to purchase custom Dia De Los Muertos yard signs in memory of your loved one(s). These signs are 24″x18″ printed on corrugated plastic and weather resistant. Yard signs must be paid for and have artwork submitted no later than Tuesday, October 15 2024, no exceptions. Orders can be placed at the end of your race registration or separately HERE. 

Saturday, October 11, 2025, the Latino Business Conexion’s of Michigan will host its Inaugural Scholarship Dance to held at the Causeway Bay Hotel in Lansing, Michigan. Beginning at 8:00pm hear the sounds spinning from DJ E-NYCE and then get ready for Orquesta Ritmo! Food, raffles, open cash bar!

Orquesta Ritmo are well known for their, Cuban style music. The troupe has traveled around the Mid-West and performed for venues all over Michigan and as far south as Dayton, Ohio. The group earned a number of accolades along the way including a Tribute from the Michigan State Legislature. In 1984, the group grew to its current 10-piece orchestra. Throughout the years, the group has shared the stage with a number of recording artists such as Los Lobos, Salsa great Oscar D’Leon, Pete Escovido, Wycliff Gordon at the E. Lansing Summer Solstice Jazz Festival, and The Bangles among others.

Cristo Rey Church is still seeking golfers and sponsors for the 5th Annual Golf Scramble to be held at the Prairie Creek Golf Course in DeWitt Saturday, September 27th. Registration starts at 8:00am with a Shot Gun start at 10:00am.

Jazz En El Rio and the Ourspace 517 presents Jazz Night at the Lansing Shuffle Sunday, September 21, 2025. With Salsa Verde and Dj Dolo providing the music, the night promises to continue the traditional finale of Hispanic Heritage Night at the Shuffle venue. With a backdrop of the many choices of cuisine that the Lansing Shuffle is known for, make plans to be there!

When Ourspace 517 cofounders Mikey Austin and Martin Hernandez visualized Hispanic Heritage Weekend, they envisioned more than just one genre of music and food. Together with Hezekiah Trevino and a committee of people have put together a day filled with cultural diversity, great foods, and plenty of fun.

Beginning at 3:30pm until 10:00pm in front of the State Capitol, 50plus vendors, food trucks, live bands, popular Dj’s and a community that comes out in droves, the festival is destined to become the 2nd largest Hispanic Festival this side of Grand Rapids and east of Detroit.

Join Ourspace 517 as they continue their four day Hispanic Heritage Weekend with Alexis Rosado and Mino Bachatero teaching Salsa and Bachata respectively at the Lansing Shuffle. DJ E-NYCE will provide sounds and with a mixer to follow, the evening is sure to be energizing. The Lansing Shuffle offers several popular cuisines to pull a great meal. The evening begins at 6:30pm.

517 Hispanic Heritage Weekend kicks off with a panel discussion at City Hall in Lansing, Michigan. Panelists include: Adriana Lopez-Ellis, Alejandra Rojas, Rafa Gonzalez, Trini Lopez-Pehlivanoglu and Yesenia Murillo. They will be speaking about health and wellness along with financial wellness. Admission is free but registration is required.

The City of Lansing will celebrate the kickoff to Hispanic Heritage Month at City Hall at 12noon on Monday, September 15, 2025. Guest speakers, food, folkloric dancers and all with free admission in downtown Lansing. Stay tuned here for more information.
