The Native American Institute in collaboration with the Office of University Outreach and Engagement and the MSU Science Festival invites 20 Native students (9th -12th Grade) to the campus of Michigan State University to participate in STEAM related programming Friday, April 10th through Sunday, April 12th.

The event is designed to expose Native youth in the 9th-12th grades to hands on sessions focused on science and technology. The event includes the opportunity to attend the MSU’s Science Festival!

Please register no later than Friday, March 6, 2026. NOTE: This is an overnight event so a chaperone is required to attend with you. This can be a parent, grand parent, guardian, or tribal educator (background check required for non-family members).

THIS IS A FREE EVENT! Lodging and meals are included but you must provide transportation to the MSU campus.

Jessica Benavides Named Interim Superintendent for the Lansing School District

Lansing School District (LSD) First Deputy Superintendent Jessica Benavides has been named interim superintendent for the District effective February 1, 2026. Current LSD superintendent Ben Shuldiner will begin his new duties in Seattle Washington after his four plus year run officially ends on January 31, 2026.

Benavides had only been in the newly created “First Deputy Superintendent since July 1, 2025, continuing a career long trend of moving up and into different positions making her a very well rounded candidate. She has been a teacher, principal and central administrator and is a favorite of many in the District. With almost 30 years in the LSD, she was instrumental in the recent LSD success along with Shuldiner as her familiarity with the District was extremely helpful to him.

At last week’s school board meeting, the board approved her contract as the LSD gears up for her to take the reins of 10,000 students and more than 20 schools in about 43 days. Prior to serving as First Deputy Superintendent, she was the Executive Director of Improvement and Innovation. Her love of the students, the city and creativity, should lead to a smooth and welcome transition.

The 31st Annual DDLM Planning Committee warmly invites you to contribute your artistic vision to this year’s celebration, centered around the inspiring theme: Floreciendo Juntas: Celebrando 31 años de Crecimiento, Hermandad, y Empoderamiento. We believe that creative expression tells a story that enriches our diverse community. Whether you are an established artist or an emerging talent, this is a unique opportunity for your work to represent our theme.

Selected artist will receive a generous honorarium, alongside the incredible chance to be featured on all promotional materials and recognized during the conference. New Year’s Eve With La Corporacion at the El Dorado Event Center

Starboy Entertainment and The El Dorado Events Center will be the site for La Corporacion to ring in the New Year Wednesday, December 31, 2025. DJ Renirats will also be providing entertainment as 2025 comes to a close.

Tias Tacos will be offering a great menu throughout the night that start at 8:00pm and ends at 2:00am.

Capital City Cage Fight Championships Return Saturday, January 10, 2026

The Capital City Cage Fight Championships are set to return on Saturday, January 10, 2026 to the Lansing Mall, 5330 W. Saginaw Hwy. Lansing, Mi. 48917. One of the featured matchups will be Axel Calero vs. Adrian Ocampo for the Bantamweight Championship.


Doors open at 7pm, show begins at 8pm.
Reserved Cageside Seats are $60, General Admission Seats are $35.


Ticket outlets for General Admission seats include Lansing Athletics in the Lansing Mall, Northside Barber Shop in Lansing, Tasmanian Tire in Holt and The Good Life Shaving Company in Okemos. Hema Datwani, es una ginecóloga-obstetra en Michigan Medicine y dirijo Around the Kitchen Table, un programa comunitario de educación para la salud de la mujer diseñado para llevar conversaciones de salud accesibles y culturalmente apropiadas directamente a la comunidad a través de sesiones interactivas, tanto virtuales como presenciales.

Me comunico con ustedes porque el miércoles 4 de diciembre, de 5:00 a 6:30 p. m., dirigiré una sesión de Kitchen Table Talks en español sobre la concientización del cáncer de mama. Esta sesión se llevará a cabo por Zoom, lo que facilita el acceso a las comunidades latinas de todo Michigan.

Nuestro objetivo es crear conciencia, fomentar la confianza en las pruebas de detección y entablar conversaciones esenciales sobre la salud mamaria y la prevención en un entorno de apoyo y culturalmente respetuoso.

Salinaz Promotions: Grupo Dezeo Performs Saturday, December 27, 2025

Salinaz Promotions is back and once again, utilizing a different venue. This time, Corina has chosen the REO Town Clubhouse with Grupo Dezeo performing Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 8pm to 12midnight. David Rodriguez will also be celebrating his birthday with anyone, and everyone welcome to join in. There will be a $15.00 cover charge at the door.

The REO Town Clubhouse with a capacity of 150 people, is located at 1314 S. Washington Ave. in Lansing’s REO Town District. Known for its good food and pool hall, the 2nd floor ballroom will host the baile. Although the dance will end at 12midnight, the bar will stay open until its usual 2:00am end time. Don’t let the 2nd floor scare you as not only does the venue offer stairs to the upstairs, but there is also an elevator.

Grand Opening: Cuban Cuisine Restaurant in East Lansing

Cuban Cuisine celebrated the Grand Opening yesterday of the first Cuban restaurant in East Lansing. Located at 219 E. Grand River Ave. right across from Michigan State University. Their first location is at 123 S. Washington Sq. in Lansing’s Downtown District.

What started out on 4 wheels with a food truck in Lansing’s Old Town District back in 2015, became a brick and mortar in downtown Lansing on December 18, 2017, and now a second location serving the MSU and East Lansing communities. 

They are open and ready to serve you. Support a small business at 219 E. Grand River Ave in East Lansing and enjoy a taste of Cuba!

It’s hard not to smile when Sonia is sharing some of her favorite things: migrating birds, friendship, chocolate, growing up in Mexico, and realizing her childhood dream of moving to New York. Her songs are inspired by various Latin American rhythms like huapango, cumbia, salsa, and festejo, as well as the North American folk traditions from the United States.

In this upbeat and joyful concert, Sonia De Los Santos and her band invite audiences to enjoy a delightful collection of original songs sung in Spanish and English. Nominated for a Latin Grammy, Sonia was hailed by Billboard as “one of the Latin children’s music artists you should know.”

The age recommendation for this event is 3 years and up.
