The Latino Advisory Committee (LAC) proudly announces Annual Latino Achievement Ceremony. This is a tentative date pending approval by the Lansing School District. The annual tradition of celebrating Latino students graduating from the Lansing School District began 1972 as a way of recognizing a population that graduated less than 50% of those enrolled in 1972.
We the members of the Latino Advisory Committee asks the community to join us in congratulating the students of Eastern, Everett, Sexton and Woodcreek from the Lansing School District as they reach a milestone that 40-50 years ago, was not always the easiest to attain for that generation.
Historically, the LAC gives away up to $3,000 in scholarships to students each year at the Ceremony. More details to come. Last year the LAC awarded $5,000 in scholarships to 10 students. A printed advertisement booklet will be published, and individuals, businesses, and organizations will be able to add their advertisements. More details to come soon.
The Latino Advisory Committee was created in April of 1972 to recognize, educate and empower parents to take a proactive role in the educational and personal development of their children. We work in partnership with the Lansing School District to advocate for Latino families and their students throughout the calendar year.
The Hispanic Latino Commission of the State of Michigan (HLC) will hold their 6th Annual Graduation on Friday April 22, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for the Annual Statewide Hispanic/Latino College Graduation Ceremony that will be hosted at the Lansing Center. The ceremony is to celebrate the achievements of Hispanic/Latino college and university graduates from across the state. Graduates: The last day to register to secure a serape is Friday April 1, 2022, by noon.

The commissioners are appointed by the Governor of Michigan, for three-year terms, subject to the advice and consent of the State Senate. The Christmas Symposium returned from a one year break and was to put it simply, a great night to enjoy the company of old friends as well as building new friendships. With those new friendships came the promise to build those into solid relationships in 2022. Showing up were elected officials and community organizers. Community leaders from the 1970’s as well up and coming community leaders in their 20’s.
Much thanks to everyone who bought tickets and sponsored as we were able to raise about $1,800 that will go towards the “No Senior Without a Christmas” which is administered by the Tri-County TRIAD. TRIAD will fill 400 boxes with household supplies, non-perishable food, and holiday cheer. The boxes are delivered to needy, older adults living in the tri-county region of Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties. Each box is delivered by uniformed public safety personnel, including law enforcement and fire personnel.
Much thanks to our sponsors Traci Ruiz Consultants, MI ALMA, The Lansing City Council, Ingham County Circuit Court Judges, James and Elizabeth Jamo, the Lansing Lugnuts and Cafecito Caliente. The Symposium was held at “The View” which is a 2,000 square foot event center named for it’s great view of Jackson Stadium home of the Lansing Lugnuts. Special thanks to the Lugnuts for hosting this year’s edition!
While the Hispanic Latino community puts this together yearly, it clearly is a night that brings together anyone and everyone willing to step out of their comfort zone and meet folks from the different pockets of Greater Lansing.
