The Ingham County’s Cultural Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee, will be hosting the Ingham County Unity in the Community event Saturday, Friday, August 23, 2024 at Hawk Island Park.

With free food, live entertainment, face painting, kayaking, yoga, and fishing available for the whole family, mark your calendars and join friends and family for this family fun day. Resource tables will also be available from a wide variety of non profits, organizations as well as several from Ingham County’s own departments.

Unity in the Community is a completely free day, but we do welcome vendors to exhibit their services and products (free samples?). We keep it free by simply asking vendors to not to sell their goods or services during the event. The cost to be a vendor is a small nominal fee of $30.00.

Join the Knights of Columbus for their 2nd annual Cruise and Food Festival, to be held at Cristo Rey Church on Saturday, August 24, 2024. The San Juan Diego Council Fundraiser will also include a car show with divisions for hot rods, classic cars, low riders, lifted trucks, and jeeps.

Costs to to participate include: $15 registration fee per car/ truck with food truck vendors at $120 per spot. Event sponsors are also encouraged to participate, with vendor spots available for $30 per spot. Promote and sell your products and support our fundraiser. Contact us to confirm your participation.

When Pierre’s Bridal, Prom & Tuxedo decided to put on a fashion to highlight their Quinceanera dresses in 2024, they wanted to not only improve upon their 2023 show, but they also wanted to involve the community. About 125 ticket holders were treated to not only a fashion show, but an evening that guaranteed this show would continue for years to come. Beautiful dresses worn by teenagers who got a glimpse of the modeling world was only part of the program.

Pierre’s with some help from Sonia Hernandez and her “Events 2 Envy by Sonia” team, helped piece together the evening which including many vendors from the Hispanic Latino business community. Also to help were the many young ladies who modeled who primarily came from the Hispanic Latino community as well.

The evening almost appeared to be reunion of sorts as yes, we realize Lansing can be small, but many in the crowd knew each other. The Hispanic Latino community really doesn’t have that many spaces to gather other than the many Spanish Churches and few dances. Pierres provided such a fresh look to Quinceaneras and for many who have utilized the “Pink Building” that Pierres is known for, a reminder for many that they once had purchased a dress or tux from this family owned small business.

Congratulations to Pierre’s for a successful event and we truly thank you for creating an event that not only was family friendly, one that the Hispanic Latino can look forward to for many years to come!

Cristo Rey Fiesta Mid-Michigan’s 2024 premier Latino festival is almost here! Fiesta 2024 will take place on Memorial Day Weekend, May 24, 25, and 26, 2024 on the church grounds. Fiesta 2024 will continue to feature authentic Mexican cuisine, the best traditional music and dance performances, and our “MERCADO” (marketplace) which offers traditional costumes, arts and crafts from the various Latin American countries represented in our community.

Additionally, as we have done in the past few years, we will continue the tradition of honoring the memory of our fallen heroes and to salute those who have served our military and those who are serving in public safety. This special ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 26th.

Since 1979, the Cristo Rey Church Fiesta has been a great time for family, friends, great food and entertainment! Mark your calendars for Friday, May 24th when the Fiesta begins!

The City of Lansing will hold it’s15th Annual Memorial Celebration in honor of Cesar E. Chavez on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. There will be a ceremony in the Tony Benavides Lansing City Council Chamber located on the 10th Floor in Lansing’s City Hall.

Immediately following the ceremony will be a reception in the City Council conference room. The ceremony is held annually close the Cesar’s birthday each year as he was born on March 31, 1927 in Yuma, California. Cesar made frequent visits to the Greater Lansing area visiting the Hispanic Latino community which was and is known for the many former and current migrant workers who moved here from southern States of Texas and California.

The Lansing Latino Health Alliance (LLHA) has named their Outstanding Latino Caregiver Awards for 2023. There will be a reception to honor the caregivers on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at the Hannah Community Center located at 819 Abbott Rd. in East Lansing.

Each year the LLHA recognizes someone from both the McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital and from Sparrow Hospital. From McLaren Hospital, Valencia Garza was selected and Juan Hernandez was chosen from Sparrow.
